Bathroom Renovations in Goodna
Midway between Brisbane and Ipswich
Goodna is 20 kilometres from the Brisbane CBD and just outside the Brisbane City Council area. The Queensland Government designated it a major activity centre, transport-oriented development centre and economic activity centre under the South East Queensland plan. The Brisbane River runs to its north, and the 2021 census counted 10,391 residents.
Woogaroo and a quarry
The area was first known as Woogaroo, from a creek name that Wikipedia says means shady or cool, and Goodna replaced it in 1865. John Oxley's party visited in 1823, and in 1826 Patrick Logan set up the Woogaroo Quarry to provide sandstone for the Moreton Bay penal colony. Dr Stephen Simpson farmed on the riverbank in a slab hut in the early 1840s.
Parks and old trees
Goodna has more than fourteen parks, including Evan Marginson Sportsground, Richardson Park, Leslie Park, Kippen Park and Seymour Park, and half of the Pan Pacific Peace Gardens. There are old jacaranda, poinciana, hoop pine and mango trees. The Goodna Boat Ramp is one of few on the Brisbane River. Possums are common, koalas are occasionally seen and kangaroos live near the golf courses.
Street names from royalty
Many of the original central streets are named after English kings, princes and queens, such as William, Albert, James and George. Goodna Shopping Centre, also known as St Ives, is a major centre and an easy walk to the train station, about 207 metres in a direct line. The suburb has long had its own railway link.
Older houses near the centre
Streets laid out in colonial times often have houses from several generations, with later bathrooms added at the back. If yours is older, give each business photographs and the date of the last renovation. Ask what they would check in the floor and walls, and how any extra cost would be agreed in writing before work continues.
Seasonal planning
With parks and mature trees close by, gardens and lawns are part of the landscape. For a bathroom job, ask each business how they will keep stored materials dry, where they will park and how access over lawns and gardens will be protected. Good answers show care for the rest of the property.
Costs in a labour-hire guide
That guide describes an owner-managed example of $17,750 for a 5.5-square-metre bathroom in Penrith, NSW, saved by having no builder margin, but with the owners carrying the scheduling. It is not an Ipswich example, and the trade-off is real. Ask whether you want the time and risk, and which licensed trades you would have to hire yourself.
Between Brisbane and Ipswich
The Queensland Government's regional plan designates Goodna a major activity centre and a transport oriented development centre. The suburb lies in Ugarapul country. Wikipedia counts over 14 parks, with free electric barbecues at the major ones, and says kangaroos are numerous near the golf courses while possums and rare koalas have been seen.
