Bathroom Renovations in Brassall

Rivers, creeks and a highway

Brassall's southern boundary is partly marked by the Bremer River, its west by Ironpot Creek and its north by the Warrego Highway. It now takes in part of the old suburb of Raymond Hill, and the Ipswich-Warrego Highway Connection Road is the main road through. The 2021 census counted 12,115 residents, up from 10,898 in 2016, a rise of about eleven per cent.

Hungry Flats

The name first appears on a plan drawn by surveyor James Warner on 6 October 1851, though its origin is unknown. The area was also called Hungry Flats, a stopover for bullock teams carrying logs from Pine Mountain to Hancock's sawmill at North Ipswich. The Shire of Brassall had its own council from March 1860 until 1 January 1917, when it joined the City of Ipswich.

A railway that became a bikepath

The Brisbane Valley railway opened from Ipswich to Lowood on 16 June 1884 and was extended to Yarraman by 1 May 1913. The line closed in 1993. Its corridor was turned into the Brassall Bikepath, part of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. Brassall Provisional School opened on 10 September 1894 and became a state school on 10 July 1899.

Churches and schools

St George's Anglican Church on Waterworks Road was dedicated in 1923 and closed on 15 November 1988. St Mark's Lutheran church was moved from Gatton to Brassall in 1967. Ipswich State High School opened on 1 July 1951 and Ipswich Adventist School on 21 January 1968. The suburb was officially bounded and named in 1991.

A settled community

In 2021, 82.8 per cent of residents were born in Australia and 89.1 per cent spoke only English at home, according to Wikipedia, while Samoan, Mandarin and Tagalog were the next most common languages. The most common response on religion was no religion, at 43.7 per cent. A community of long-settled households often prefers a measured refresh.

Planning around schools

Brassall has several schools, and the Ipswich State High School is on its edge, so mornings and afternoons are busy near school gates. Ask each business to arrange deliveries and skips for mid-morning. A short chat with neighbours before demolition day also helps, as noise travels in tightly built streets.

Prices and stages

A labour-hire guide breaks a mid-range six-square-metre bathroom into a series of line items, adding up to $21,500 to $41,500 before margin, and says margins are 15 to 25 per cent. Ask each business for a line-item breakdown that you can compare. A single lump sum is hard to check against another quote.
